In this digital era, it is possible to get almost all services online, and applying for a birth certificate has become one of them. Getting a birth certificate is very important here in our country. You will need it for registering for KCPE and KCSE when applying for employment, passport, visas, and even when getting your ID for the first time.
There are different scenarios when applying for a birth certificate. They are:
- Applying for a newborn (should be less than six months)
- Late registration (above six months)
- Applying when in abroad
- Applying for an adult
Having that in mind, you will require various documents for applying for each of the four categories. Here is what you need to apply for a baby who is below six months. This is the best time to apply for a birth certificate as the process is much easier here.
- Original birth notification and a copy of it
- A copy of the parent’s ID. If any is dead, present the death certificate
- A fee of Sh90-200 may be charged (The cost keeps changing)
With all the above documents, visit the ecitizen website and click Services and from the list, choose Civil Registration Services. You will see Birth Certificate and late birth certificate on your right. Choose what applies to you. Go ahead and follow the prompts.
Note that you need an ecitizen account before accessing any of the listed government services. So first, go ahead and create your account.
